Building on the success of the Fisheries Enhancement Initiative, the Fisheries Enhancement Fund (FEF) will promote and fund projects that enhance and conserve Manitoba’s recreational fisheries resource. The FEF will create an increase in aquatic ecosystem and fisheries knowledge for improving management, stewardship, enhancement and conservation of Manitoba’s fisheries. Also, project review and recommendations from user groups will be integrated into the FEF decision-making process.

The FEF funds projects that enhance and conserve Manitoba’s recreational fisheries resource under the following categories:

Fisheries Research
Scientific research related to the study of fish, fish populations, and/or aquatic ecosystems. |

Fisheries Education
Education and awareness activities, training, seminars and forums.
|
|
Fish Stock Assessment/Monitoring
Assessments and on-going monitoring of fish populations and harvest in lakes and rivers.
|
|
Fish Habitat Enhancement
Conservation, preservation, maintenance,rehabilitation and monitoring of fish habitat and aquatic ecosystems.

Fisheries Outreach/Stewardship
Local community involvement in the conservation, enhancement, and monitoring of Manitoba’s fish/habitat.

Fisheries Development
Enhancement or creation of local recreational fishing opportunities, tourism/economic and leisure benefits.

ART COMPETITION
2011 Winner Unveiled! Click here!
This year's winning artwork was painted by Doug Tritthart. Doug is a first time winner with his painting tilted "Family Fishing". The stamp is a reminder to fishers that a portion of their licence fee helps fund projects that ensure adequate fish stocks exist for future generations.

GEAR UP - TACKLING THE FUTURE
On March 7th, 2010 at the Mid-Canada Boat Show, the Minister of Water Stewardship Christine Melnick announced funding to support the Gear Up - Tackling the Future fishing program. The program is designed to collect used fishing equipment, re-furbish it, and then share it with others. Your support and simple donation will help gear up children, families, and those less forturate with the equipment needed to get them started in fishing.
In attendance at the announcement were Hon. Minister Melnick, Hon. Ron Lemieux, Rick Koss (Hunter Wire), Frank Soja (Program Coordinator), Don Lamont (Provincial Youth Angling Coordinator), David Carrick (Fish Futures), Gary Morlock (Manitoba Wildlife Federation), Jeff Cottes, Katherine Ward and Rob Cann (Manitoba Fisheries).
     
     
2011 YOUTH ANGLER CARD ARTWORK CONTEST
On January th, 2011 at the Manitoba Legislature, the 2011 Youth Angler Card Artwork Contest Winner was announced. This year's winner was Ms. Jackie St. Hiliare from St. Malo, Manitoba. The artwork titled "Underwater Fun" depicts a Yellow Perch in its natural environment. 50,000 cards will be produced and distributed throughout Manitoba.
In attendance at the unvieling were the Hon. Minister Melnick, Ms. Jackie Hiliare (Artist) an her parents, Don Lamont - Provincial Youth Angler Coordinator, and Mr. Rob Cann of Manitoba Fisheries Branch.

On January 8th 2008, the Minister of Water Stewardship announced that the FEF was going to be increased to $850,000.
