FISH WINNIPEG

These programs are intended for families with limited disposable income and for children who would otherwise not have a chance to go fishing.  Our goal is to promote fishing as a lifelong leisure activity while instilling the principles of conservation and responsible angling.  Over $350,000 has been raised from corporate and media sponsors who participate in a guides and guests fishing challenge based out of The Forks.
The Van Program runs during July and August, and three groups of kids go fishing each day under the supervision of City of Winnipeg employees.  The Fish Winnipeg van transports the group from their community centre to fishing hot spots for instruction and good fun.  Each child receives a new rod and reel so they can continue fishing.  The Fish Camps run for one week, and each day children enjoy a new fishing experience.  They fish the Red River, visit the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery, fish Lyons Lake, fish with a professional guide, and tour the city on a pontoon boat.  A new Fish Winnipeg initiative offers scholarships to youth who have participated in our programs and are pursuing post-secondary studies related to fisheries.
