PROVINCIAL ROD & REEL PROGRAM
Since 1992, Don Lamont, with the support of Fish Futures, has visited over forty schools in central and northern Manitoba to talk fishing and bring a message of stewardship. In the early years, Don visited schools in the Swan Valley and Dauphin areas. With the generous support of the Gurke family, the program expanded into northern Manitoba in 2002, and added a hot lunch and rods, reels and terminal tackle to be distributed by the school. Over the past three years, Fish Futures has partnered with Manitoba Hydro to bring the Provincial Rod and Reel Program to ten communities in northern Manitoba. Fish Futures’ partners also include Calm Air, Perimeter Airlines, Gardewine, Sysco Food Systems, the RCMP, Manitoba Water Stewardship and the Fisheries Enhancement Fund.
